hotel California（加州旅馆）真的是一首诡异的歌吗？它隐含着什么故事吗?
在所有解释里我最倾向的是吸毒，对比歌中的那些迷幻景物的描述和时间顺序的倒错，再看看歌中这些句子可能就越发明显："What a nicesurprise, bring you alibis"（多么令人惊喜，带给你逃避的藉口），"We are all just prisoners here of our own device” （我们都是这里自投罗网的囚犯）这些歌词只有和吸毒有关，才更合适和容易理解，同样的还有"这儿可能是天堂也可能是地狱…."，"走廊的声音…. 天花板上的镜子” “他们用钢制小刀戳刺猎物"（注射）等等等等． 如果你还是不肯定，仔细体会一下结尾，已经非常明确的告诉了我们："You can check out any time you like but you can never leave’。（你可以结账，但永远无法离开）直到有一天是在国外的一个网站上我看到一个网友指出，Eagles的Glenn Frey曾在唱片的出版注释上专门注明过："Hotel California is a metaphor for cocaine addiction"（《加州》暗喻着可卡因沉溺）．惊奇吗？如果我肯定的说我们痴迷的加州旅馆绝对是一首描述吸毒和迷幻感觉的歌？ 好了，让我们再来看看谁都不知道的，字典上也没有的” Colitas”到底是什么，"Colitas"别说我们，就是美国人自己的疑问也非常的大，比如早先我在Lyrics上看到许多人赞同以下的观点:"Colitas"是拼写错误，应该是“Colitis”。原因是The Beatles(披头士，别说你不知道啊，呵呵)最著名的《露西和钻石在天上》（“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"）里面就有一句: The girl with"colitis” goes by….因此断定这个词在加州旅馆里也应该是Colitis，这个词的解释是an inflammation of the large ntestine（怒气冲冲？）因为在国外英文歌在出磁带或CD的时候很少有把歌词附上的，歌词都是另由人整理的，整理过程中因为发音相同的词不好辨别，曾出过许多奇怪有趣的错误,(记得最厉害的错误是Louis Armstrong 的“What a Wonderful world"里的那句"The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night"竟然给记成了” The bride bless the day, the dogs say goodnight"了） 但是如果算是错记成的COLITIS我觉得还解释不通，怒气冲冲也和《加州》的意境一点都不合，在找寻答案的过程中，我看过国内的一些介绍摇滚乐的书上也曾提起《加州旅馆》，说到这个单词的时候他们解释成沙漠里的COLITAS花的香气，这也使我相信过一段时间，直到后来，我终于找到了看到赛西尔亚当斯早在1997年的一段研究，他首先也是认为这是沙漠里花的名字，然后他偶然发现colitas这个词最频繁出现的地方是墨西哥和西班牙餐馆的菜单上，他们通过懂西班牙语的人研究了在西班牙语里这个词后，得知Colitas是指可乐树（colas－the tip of a marijuana branch）,俚语是说大麻枝的枝尖，也是大麻最有效力最精华的部分，好品质的大麻(这点和茶叶一样，呵呵）终于让人豁然开朗了，再让我们回头来看看这首歌，在开头它就描述了在公路上疾驶，空气里传来上等COLITAS “温暖"的味道。请注意，味道怎么才能是"温暖"的呢？这应该是一种抚慰的感觉，一种满足的比喻，显然是和毒品有关，明白了这些，下面歌词里出现的奇怪迷幻的东西，都是顺理成章的了。
